This excellent report was commissioned by Just Space and researched and written by Sarah (Kexuan) Xu, a final-year student studying BSc Urban Planning, Design and Management at University College London. She has a particular interest in examining the design of green public spaces and regeneration projects in cities, and their impacts on the social life of local residents. It covers all areas of biodiversity explaining why it matters and what needs to be done. It refers to both urban and rural areas in the UK as well as marine environments. Important ideas include the concept of natural capital, a way to ensure that the environment and other species are given their full value when making decisions. Another important point is the stress on the need to involve communities in monitoring and safeguarding their local environment- the idea of the citizen scientist. Read the full report here.
